Meet the Artist: Seso Marentes

Seso Marentes Headshot.png

Seso is an Iowa-born artist from Des Moines, Iowa. His works are a commentary of his life experiences being raised a Mexican-American in Iowa. Born between the fine line of 2 cultures that create distinct roles for males, his work comes from his unique experience as a father creating momentum for fatherhood rights in the state of Iowa, and advocating for underprivileged individuals both youth and adult to break out of stereotypical stigmas. His work, much like himself, cannot be labeled with just one style. He is a multi disciplined artisan with a degree in visual studio arts with a unique way of story telling to best describe his multifaceted style.

"My work is influenced by other marginalized artist like Frida Kahlo and Basquiat who elevated graffiti to world-renown works of art in various mediums that reached populations around the globe. The people who have poured into me have influenced my art and led me to communities of support like Mainframe Studios. I am community-minded and that leads me to create work that connects with people, a level of relatability that allows everyone who encounters my art to feel like is was created for them. My legacy will be the artists who go for their dreams because they discovered my work and saw themselves in it."
