Thursday and Friday Night | March 12th and 13th | 6:30pm - 8:30pm | Instructor - Jacque Hudson
Explore the beauty and movement of Vincent van Gogh's style in this two-night acrylic painting workshop. You will be guided step-by-step through expressive brushstrokes, layering color, creating movement, and building texture as you bring your own version of his iconic work to life. While Van Gogh originally worked in oils, we’ll translate his vivid layering techniques into the faster-drying world of acrylics, without losing luminosity.
By the end of the second session, each participant will have a completed acrylic 11" x 14" painting inspired by Van Gogh’s Irises, along with a deeper understanding of his process and how to achieve expressive, painterly effects with modern materials. No prior painting experience required—just bring your curiosity and creativity.
Night One – Foundations & Color:
Begin with a single iris as our focus.
Lay down the mother color, block out shadows, and sketch the composition and block in large color areas.
Demonstration: Why we’re using acrylic instead of oil, and how to adapt his layering techniques.
Apply the first directional brushstrokes to establish flow and movement.
Night Two – Texture & Expression
Refine shapes and values, enhancing depth with glazing and impasto techniques.
Add highlights and color accents to bring the flower to life.
Discuss finishing touches
